My Goal Towards Studying English
Bay Area O is my corner of the internet where I tell personal stories and reflections as I grow as a writer. Behind all of these pieces, there is one big goal quietly shaping what I write and how I think: I want to study English in college.
I’ve always been drawn to the way words can tell stories, explain ideas, and make people see something from a completely different perspective. As a homeschooled student, I didn’t spend my days sitting in crowded classrooms or following the same path as everyone else. Instead, I’ve had the opportunity to build much of my own structure, spending time outside of school, writing, and figuring out what kinds of subjects genuinely interest me. Over time, I’ve realized that English is one of those subjects I keep coming back to.
When I picture myself in college, I imagine sitting in an English class surrounded by people who care about language, literature, and storytelling. I imagine reading books that challenge the way I think, maybe discussing ideas I’ve never considered before, and writing pieces that force me to search deeper into my own thoughts. I imagine walking across campus with a notebook in my bag, noticing small details and collecting them for future stories. More than anything, I want to be in an environment where curiosity is encouraged and where I can become a stronger, more thoughtful writer.
Studying English in college matters to me because it feels like a bridge between the person I am now and the person I want to become. I don’t know exactly what my career will look like yet, and I’m okay with that. What I do know is that I want writing and storytelling to remain a meaningful part of my life. College would give me the opportunity to study those things more deeply while exposing me to different perspectives, people, and ideas.
I know there are no guarantees about where I’ll end up. College admissions are competitive, plans change, and sometimes life takes us somewhere we never expected. What matters most to me is finding a college where I can study English, challenge myself, meet people who inspire me, and continue figuring out what kind of writer I want to become.
For now, studying English in college is the direction I’m moving toward. This site is where I practice getting there—story by story, reflection by reflection. If you’re reading this, thank you for being here with me in this in-between moment, while I’m still figuring things out and still learning how to say what I really mean.
If any part of this goal or journey resonates with you, I’d love for you to stay and read a few stories. This space is as much about connection as it is about my journey toward becoming a better writer.
